As part of the staff exchange program, I had the opportunity to visit Prostor Culture Hub in Split, Croatia, from my home hub, Romantso in Athens. My goal was to explore how Prostor integrates creativity, education, and community engagement while exchanging ideas on cultural programming and artist support. At Romantso, we combine coworking with artistic production, and I was eager to see how Prostor operates as a community-driven space for experimentation and collaboration.
During my four-day visit, I participated in Prostor’s activities, engaged with local artists, and shared insights on creative hub management. This report highlights key experiences and takeaways from my time in Split.
Upon arriving at Prostor, I was warmly welcomed by the Culture Hub Croatia team and introduced to the space’s unique collaborative model, where members shape its programming and governance. My first evening coincided with an “Adopt the Space” event, where creatives proposed ideas for using Prostor’s space in innovative ways. It was inspiring to see how community involvement drives the hub’s direction, reinforcing its role as a space for co-creation and artistic dialogue.
Beyond Prostor, I explored Split’s creative scene, visiting artist-run spaces and witnessing how contemporary culture is integrated into the city’s historical fabric. The experience reaffirmed my belief that cultural hubs play a crucial role in shaping urban identities and fostering inclusive artistic communities.
During informal gatherings, I shared experiences from Athens’ creative sector, while learning about Split’s grassroots initiatives. The exchange of ideas and perspectives reinforced the importance of international collaboration in strengthening Europe’s independent cultural scene.
This exchange has sparked ideas for future collaborations, and I look forward to continuing the dialogue between our two hubs. The connections made in Split will undoubtedly shape my work at Romantso, reinforcing the importance of cross-border partnerships in the creative sector.
