In4Art Rotterdam @ Matera Hub

Visiting Materahub in Matera as part of the staff exchange program was a truly insightful experience, offering a deep dive into how cultural and creative industries (CCIs) can drive innovation and entrepreneurship. Coming from In4Art in Rotterdam, where we focus on art-driven innovation at the intersection of technology and sustainability, I was particularly interested in how Materahub integrates capacity-building, European partnerships, and social impact into its initiatives. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed into a dynamic ecosystem where local and international experts, entrepreneurs, and policymakers collaborate to foster sustainable growth in the creative sector. Throughout my stay, I participated in workshops on responsible innovation, discussions on female entrepreneurship in CCIs, and roundtables exploring how artistic experimentation can contribute to regenerative business models. One of the most impactful moments was a conversation on how cultural hubs can act as facilitators for systemic change, bridging the gap between creativity, research, and economic development.

Beyond the structured sessions, exploring Matera’s rich cultural landscape reinforced the connection between heritage, sustainability, and modern entrepreneurship. Walking through the city’s ancient streets, visiting artisan workshops, and engaging in informal discussions with local creatives highlighted how cultural hubs like Materahub play a crucial role in community transformation. This exchange not only provided valuable insights into how creative hubs can integrate experimental art practices into economic frameworks, but also sparked ideas for potential collaborations between In4Art and Materahub. As both organizations are committed to rethinking innovation through artistic research, I look forward to continuing this dialogue and exploring ways to bridge the arts, technology, and responsible entrepreneurship to create meaningful impact.
