BAUTOPIA 7 is not only a space for conversations and ideas, it is also an opportunity to get hands-on, experiment with new materials, learn new techniques and make things together. The workshops' programme is out!
Across 7–9 October, BAUTOPIA brings together nine hands-on workshops exploring sustainable design, circular making, storytelling, animation, biomaterials, fashion, craft, technology and climate futures.
The workshops are open to everyone and anyone interested: artists, designers, makers, students, creative professionals or simply curious people to try something new. BAUTOPIA 7 is a festival, so the programs are tailored to the local audience, as much as the hub guests from across Europe

Precious Plastic Lab: An Upcycling Workshop

What happens to plastic after we throw it away? In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the basics of plastic recycling and upcycling, learn to identify different types of plastic, and see the Precious Plastic Lab machines in action.
Creative Agency Through Storytelling: How Art Helps Us Reclaim Agency

Community Re:Making

What can design and making do for a neighbourhood? Community Re:Making is a participatory workshop bringing together social design, circular fabrication and material innovation. Working alongside local residents and the TransfoLAB team, participants will contribute to a real-life community project responding to the needs of the communal garden shared with neighbours.
Tracing the Invisible: Performance-led Mixed-media Animation Workshop

In this hands-on workshop, movement becomes animation.Participants will create short movement gestures that are recorded on video, extracted and printed frame by frame.
SeaClay Freeform Workshop

What if discarded oyster shells could become something entirely new? This hands-on workshop introduces SeaClay, a bio-based material made from oyster shells and algae sourced from the Tagus estuary and local food supply chains.
Imagineering Sustainable Fashion

How can we turn sustainability challenges into concrete design ideas? This creative, hands-on session introduces the Imagineering methodology, inviting participants to work in teams, explore real challenges facing fashion and develop tangible solutions using sustainable materials.
Sustainable Packaging

This interactive workshop explores alternatives to conventional packaging through hands-on experimentation with bio-based and biodegradable materials: beeswax-infused textile wraps, algae-based alginate biofilms and gelatin-based packaging.
The Open Loom Lab: Reviving Craft Through Digital Fabrication

The Open Loom Lab explores the connection between European wool, natural dyeing, weaving and digital fabrication. Participants will experiment with natural dyes, try weaving on an open-source laser-cut loom and explore ways digital fabrication can contribute to more sustainable and locally rooted craft practices.
The Ministry of Renewable Extinction (MRX)

The Ministry of Renewable Extinction (MRX) is an ongoing near-future artistic prototype of a ministry that offers jobs during climate extinction.
The workshops, as most of the program, is open to general audiences.
An important note for ECHN members is that the workshops will be overlapping with the internal ECHN sessions, which our members are expected to attend. We will clarify this more in the days to come. Until then, we kindly ask our members not to apply for the workshop participation for now.
