Popdistrict is a cultural institution without walls, located on and around the Grote Markt in The Hague. This area attracts millions of visitors annually and houses progressive cultural institutions and the most sustainable hospitality square in the Netherlands, with trams running right through it.
With the living lab Vrijstaat Popdistrict, we explore how an urban cultural area can function as a permanent festival ground and as a testing ground for social, cultural, and sustainable urban development. Together with residents, entrepreneurs, creators, and knowledge institutions, we experiment with new forms of programming, public space, food, entrepreneurship, and community building.
Popdistrict forms the beating heart of live music in the center of The Hague. Zwarte Ruiter, Zeta, September, The Grey Space in the Middle, and music venue Paard jointly present a broad and diverse music program here.
Festivals such as Rewire, Grauzone, and Sniester spread across these venues and unexpected locations.
