Throwback to June’s Brunch with a visit to one of Porto’s most creative spots!

Last month, we had Tânia and her CRU Creative Hub as our guests for June’s online Family Brunch.

CRU has been a creative hub based in Oporto's Art District since 2012, one of the first in the city. It is dedicated to developing a multidisciplinary and extensive community of creative industry professionals.

In its space, CRU aggregates:

  • a coworking space with an informal and flexible environment mainly directed to professionals from the creative cultural industries;
  • a design store that emphasises not only the originality of each product but also the commitment of each brand to sustainability and fair trade;
  • a speciality coffee bar as a unique meeting place for the entire community and the surrounding neighbourhood;
  • an art exhibition area with regular programming every 2 months;
  • audiovisual production studios, namely photography and audio recording.

CRU’s mission is to offer the best conditions to keep its community active, prosperous and international while reinforcing each freelancer and solopreneur's individual potential in the different cultural and creative industries. For this, CRU offers space and services at a bearable cost in an environment suitable for artistic creation, productivity, networking and collaborations, contributing to the well-being and friendship of all the people in our community.

CRU is formed by a community of more than 350 coworkers, designers and entrepreneurs with the brand represented in the store, artists, partners and trainers, of which around 40 work daily in its space.

From this talent pool and social capital, CRU recruits the human power needed for its collaborative projects and innovative ideas.

In terms of collaborations at the European level, CRU has developed projects as a consortium partner or associated partner in areas such as:

- Digital Transition in Creative Industries (e.g. DigiArt project, an Erasmus Plus Project)

- Cross-Platform Learning in Small-Scale Manufacturing (GateWay Crafts, an Erasmus Plus Project)

- Sustainability in Creative Industries (CREA-UP, a Creative Europe Project)

CRU is also closely related to the local development association that is creating the distributed creative hub in the Bombarda block (Porto's Arts District). In consortium with the local municipality, the association is supporting the development of the digital transition project for local commerce, the Bombarda Digital project.
